Agenda

Event Overview

There is increasing evidence that electricity is strongly correlated with wealth. Access to reliable and adequate electricity services has been linked to industrialization and growth. The lack of such electricity services precludes industrial activities and job creation and hence exacerbates poverty across the Nation. Yet the average access levels for electricity in most urban area is barely 20% and hence threatens to compromise achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and the Vision 20 2020.

The inaugural Electricity Summit 2009 will address concerns over the recent and future developments of the Nigerian electricity supply industry and consider the challenges facing the industry and explore some of the potential solutions. The Summit will consider the questions: What are the issues? What’s at stake? Where are we headed?

The objective is to create a platform for open dialogue and exchanging of ideas with key partners, scholars, and stakeholders from Government, Industry players and Consumers on key issues pertaining to the electricity supply industry and share the experiences of learned speakers from Nigeria and the region on these key issues.

The Electricity Summit 2009 will also discuss the current hot issues in power industry and energy domain and study new challenges and new trends brought to the urban grid planning and development by renewable energy, distributed generation, etc. The conference will also promote a further communication and mutual understanding among the domestic and foreign power utilities and equipment manufacturers, sharing the development and progress induced by new theory and advanced technologies.

The 2009 Nigeria Electricity Summit brings businesses together from around the globe to tackle existing challenges and highlight industry-wide best practices to sustainably meet Nigeria’s growing energy demand. Despite the current global financial crisis, the drive for clean power must go on. The 2009 Nigeria Electricity Summit brings businesses together for ACTION!
